Fallows is one of America’s most distinguished and influential writers on
the major issues of the day. He is International Correspondent and
former Washington Editor (1979-1996) of the renowned American journal
The Atlantic Monthly. He has been editor of the Washington Monthly
and from 1996 to 1998 was editor of US News and World Report. He was chief speechwriter for the President of the United States (Jimmy Carter). He is
also the founding chairman of the New America Foundation , a non-profit
group based in Washington DC. He has won the National Magazine Award
and the American Book Award. He is the author of eight books and hundreds of articles on such topics as the Internet, Japan, Asian economies, Congress, the Pentagon, aviation and travel, and the state of America's media; the most
recent book being “Blind into Baghdad: America’s War in Iraq” (Vintage,
